Star of the Sea

I listened to this novel and it is a remarkably beautiful written book about a very difficult topic.  Being Irish, the story hits close to the bone.  Joseph O”Connor has written a story that is not sugar coated.

The story takes place before, during and after the famine in the 1845’s.  Our main characters are Mary Dwain, The Mulveys. David Meredith.  Each character is presented in depth and with flashbacks.  We first find them on the boat that will take the passengers to New York City if they survive.  There is also a murder on board.

This book is a challenge but worth it!
